The IB Language B course is a two-year course, taking a multidisciplinary, thematic approach to the language, focusing on the core skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural proficiency. Students are expected to communicate exclusively in the target language and will learn to employ linguistic strategies and activate prior learning through expansion of receptive, productive, and interactive skills, along with a strong emphasis on intercultural understanding. Students will explore a wide variety of authentic, culturally driven topics of relevance to the target language, utilizing a variety of authentic materials written by and for native speakers. Students will gain a new perspective by seeing them through different eyes, and will consider how language colors our perception of the world around us. The course of study is appropriate for both Diploma and Certificate candidates, and culminates in the International Baccalaureate Language B oral and written examinations in the target language.
