In IB Visual Arts, students learn how to create, communicate and connect as artists as they engage in creative practices and processes, work with a variety of art-making forms and creative strategies, and learn art-making as inquiry. Students engage with the world through individual and shared experiences, imagination, and action. They experience authentic art-making guided by artistic intentions and student choice as they become progressively more independent art practitioners. Students develop a personal visual language and learn to communicate artistic intentions to different audiences, connecting with the work of other artists and considering the significance of context. Major tasks are (1) the Art-making inquiries portfolio, focused on the student’s art-making as inquiry, (2) the Artist project, focused on the student creating and situating in context an artwork they they ideate and realize as part of a project, and (3) Selected resolved artworks, a coherent portfolio of student work selected from their larger body of production and supported by a rationale. This course requires a significant amount of analytical and reflective writing. Prerequisites: Two years of prior art classes (3D, 2D, or Ceramics for example,) recommendation of your most recent art instructor and approval from your English II teacher.
